About us
Our vision
Beyond The Verdict is a Canadian survivor-led advocacy group supporting sexual assault survivors by challenging misinformation in the courtroom and advocating for trauma-informed justice.
Our mission
To publicly counter outdated rape myths and harmful narratives during high-profile sexual assault trials.
To make every survivor and victim-complainant feel seen, believed and supported; especially those silenced by publication bans and other constraints.
To advocate for a trauma-informed justice system that centers survivors and presents the truth about sexual violence—instead of perpetuating the myths.
Our values
Truth | We confront misinformation and distorted facts to bring clarity and honesty to conversations about sexual violence.
Solidarity | We stand with survivors in their fight to be seen, heard and believed.
Accountability | We challenge the legal, media and institutional practices that retraumatize survivors and protect power over truth.
Survivor-Centered | We amplify survivor voices and support those who are silenced or sidelined.
Trauma-Informed | We push for a justice system that understands trauma and treats sexual assault survivors with care and dignity.
Who we are
Beyond The Verdict is a small Canadian advocacy group founded in June 2025 by survivors Kelly Favro and J.B. with support from podcaster Kristi Lee.
Together, we’re working to raise awareness of how the justice system really works—and who it appears to be working for.
What we do
We’re only just getting started…
Responding to news and coverage of sexual assault trials with public statements offering survivor-led perspectives
We aim to counter the often dehumanizing and inaccurate narratives circulating in the media and online.
Calling out harmful narratives and compel media accountability
We identify misinformation, sensationalism, and framing that reinforces rape myths or retraumatizes survivors. We urge journalists to consider the impact of their language and to represent survivors and victim-complainants ethically and accurately.
Offering visible, public support to the survivor at the center of the case
Survivors and victim-complainants are often treated as invisible or unreliable, and because many are bound by publication bans or fear of retaliation they cannot speak for themselves. So we’ll be sharing our own perspectives in solidarity, to bring essential truth and nuance to the conversation.
Educating the public and shift public discourse over time
We will challenge and dismantle rape myths and stereotypes in plain language.
We’ll also push back on misinformation about “false reporting of sexual assault” and highlight the reality that survivors face enormous barriers to justice.
Advocating for a legal system that understands trauma and survivor realities
This isn’t about lowering the standard of proof — it’s about acknowledging that the system was never designed for survivors. We advocate for legal reforms that reflect how trauma works, how survivors respond to harm, and how justice can better capture the truth of our experiences.
